The 1960s. OOOOHHH what a time for fashion.
Clothing was heavily inspired by music (oh the Beatles were a big influence), the anti-war movement, and amazing women such as Jackie Kennedy Onassis.
The mini skirt was invented by Mary Quant. Mini dresses became all the rage – a break from the traditional wiggle dresses of the 50s. Twiggy, the fashion model, is known for wearing these dresses.

Britain’s, MOD Invasion, was a HUGE part of 60s fashion, heavily influenced by the Beatles. 1960s fashion is also indicitive of super models Twiggy and Colleen Corby (as well as many others).
A-line dresses were big in the early 60s along with the Shift dress – a shapeless, geometric cut, usually sleeveless dress. The 60s gave us the Babydoll dress, usually an empire waist, flared skirt mini dress.
Along with the mini skirt, culottes were all the rage – short, extra wide legged bottoms. Palazzo pants, by Russian designer Galitzine, were a big hit too!
The hippie movement began in the late 1960s. Bringing about, bell bottoms, tie die, batik, psychadelic fabrics, mexican peasant dresses, caftans and so much more.
Interestingly, skinny jeans also became popular at this time thanks to Audrey Hepburn.
Flat boots, go-go boots, low and wide heels took the place of stilleto’s from the 50s.
Fashion designers of the 60s include; Yves Saint Laurent, Givenchy, Valentino, Cassini, Guy Laroche, Balenciaga, and Galitzine.
